Heart Tattoos and There Meaning

July 11th, 2007    Subscribe To Our Feed

Researchers have found varieties of the heart symbol used throughout history, dating all the way back to the time just prior to the ice age.  Symbols of the heart have been used by just about every culture, from the ancient Egyptians to Greek mythology to the tribes of Africa.  So it is no wonder that heart tattoos are as popular as they are today.

Heart tattoos have evolved from the symbol on the sailor’s arm as a tribute to his mother to one of the most complex designs with the greatest number of variations around.

Heart tattoos are common on both men and women and can be designed as a tribal tattoo, a Celtic tattoo, or even your basic greeting-card style heart.  They can be placed on numerous area of the body, commonly showing up on arms, ankles, hips, chests, and lower back areas.

Heart tattoos can mean many different things to many different people.  Throughout history, different cultures have used the heart to symbolize different things and no singular meaning has made itself common to date.

The same applies to heart tattoos.  Depending on the color, style, combinations with other items, and placement on the body, a heart tattoo can mean almost anything.

Common Heart Tattoo Meanings

Heart tattoos can represent any number of meanings, moods, and personalities.  One of the most common in western culture is the red heart symbolizing love.  These hearts are often combined with roses or banners stating the loved one’s name to proclaim everlasting romantic love.

Heart tattoos combined with daggers, swords, or knives can represent either betrayal or courage, depending on the person wearing the tattoo.  One type of heart tattoo design is commonly acknowledged as the “sacred heart of Christ”, and the wearer of this tattoo is stating their devotion and understanding of the love of Christ in a Christian sense.

Tribal hearts rendered in basic colors usually represent an individual with their emotions under control.  Heart tattoos with wings, normally found on the shoulder, chest, or lower back, is known to signify a person with a happy, pure, and free spirit.  This can also be designated by a heart design with a halo above it.

Hearts combined with other symbols such as animals, sports items, or nature indicates a love for that particular item.  Heart tattoos displayed as broken, black, or only half is displayed symbolized grief and loss.

There are few symbols in the world that can match the complexity of the heart, and heart tattoos are no different.  Whether they signify passion, loss, or love, heart tattoos have been around for generations and are gaining in popularity every year.  Regardless if it is the individual’s first tattoo or their tenth, a heart tattoo is an everlasting reminder of a passion of the individual decorated with it.

Girl Tattoos Are Flirty, Feminine, And Fun

July 8th, 2007    Subscribe To Our Feed

Years ago, it was unheard of for girls to have tattoos.  Not only that, but girls who did wear the permanent body art were viewed as being scandalous and promiscuous.  During this time, the term “girl tattoos” did not refer to the wide variety of feminine tattoos that we associate with the term today.

The term “girl tattoos” used to refer to tattoos of pin up girls, such as Betty Boop, that would adorn the bodies of the sailors, gang members, and bikers that would commonly wear tattoos.  However, as tattoos have become more common-scene, girl tattoos are now known for being gender specific tattoos that symbolize femininity and delicacy.  Today, there are a wide variety of different girl tattoos with different symbols and meanings.

Common Girl Tattoos

There are many common tattoo designs that are gender specific to girls.  These girl tattoos typically have meanings behind them.  If you know the meaning behind common these tattoos, you can learn a lot about the girl and her personality.

One common girl tattoo is a butterfly tattoo.  A butterfly is one of the most popular girl tattoos, and it can have several different meanings associated with it.  For example, a butterfly could symbolize a beautiful change.  A butterfly tattoo can also symbolize freedom.

Another common girl tattoo is a flower tattoo.  Flowers can symbolize happiness or passion.  The color of the flower has a lot to do with what the flower tattoo means; a red rose could symbolize love and passion, while a yellow flower often means joy and happiness.

Other common girl tattoos include those that feature a simple name or word.  When written in delicate script, the girl’s own name or even a feminine adjective shows confidence and femininity.  It is important not to use a script that is too overpowering, because that would take away from the femininity of the tattoo.

Placement Of Girl Tattoos

Girls commonly choose the same areas of their bodies to place their girl tattoos.  These areas are typically ones associated with being more feminine or sexy.  Some common areas where girls choose to place their tattoos include: shoulder, lower back, hip, and ankle.

However, just because these are common areas where girls place their tattoos doesn’t mean that they can’t be placed anywhere else.  A girl tattoo could be placed on the arm, wrist, or stomach as well.

Not Just For Men Anymore

Although tattoos used to be just for guys, girl tattoos are becoming more and more common—they are symbols of femininity, delicacy, and beauty.

Do You Really Want a Gang Tattoo

July 5th, 2007    Subscribe To Our Feed

For the young kids who grow up in poor crime ridden neighborhoods, joining a gang isn’t really an option.  Kids join to belong and for safety.  This is ironic because belonging to a gang does not make people safer in any way.  In fact, many of the people end up in prison or six feet under the turf.

One of the affiliation marks that members have is the gang tattoos.  Gang tattoos are usually done in a way that other people involved in gangs would immediately notice.  It’s kind of like a name tag for ushers at church or people at stores for others to approach.  It is meant to be different yet the same to their own kind.

If a person  has ever watched one of the documentary shows about prisons and prison life, they will often see people with gang tattoos because in prison, most of the people belong to gang for safety inside the prison.

A gang tattoo is what the prison looks for in people at the prison.  They need to make sure that they don’t place a new person in an area with other gangs.  They will be beat up or even worse, they will be killed or stabbed.

Gang Tattoos And The Police

In most of the cities across America, the local police work hard to identify gang members in their area.  They have lists and pictures to better identify the gangs.  Some areas of the city are so dangerous to the police that they will only go into those areas with backup support.

When they do go into these areas they are always looking for gang tattoos.  Many of the big drug busts that people see on TV are started with gangs in mind.  This is because the gangs usually control the drugs.

Gang tattoos aren’t for fun and frolic.  They are very real and they stand for evil in the neighborhoods in which they live.  Someone with a gang tattoo will kill for any reason and most of the time they have no remorse or even care to keep innocent people safe.

With drive by shootings there are often people killed who just happen to be in the wrong place at the wrong time.  Gang tattoos will probably not go away and those who have them don’t get them because they look cool.  While there are many tattoos that look good and stand out, the gang tattoo also stands out and says stay away!  The picture is crystal clear.

Wolf Lovers or Not - Wolf Tattoos

June 30th, 2007    Subscribe To Our Feed

Throughout history, the wolf has been one of the most powerful and persistent symbols in fact and legend.  At one time, wolves could be found on most of the continents of the world (Australia and Antarctica excluded).

Now, due to man’s ignorance, fear and greed, the wolf is extinct in most countries and is endangered in North America.  But still, the wolf survives.  Somehow, despite all the hatred and misunderstanding thrown at the wolf, the wolf still goes on.

How Much Is That Wolfie In The Window

Native Americans, homeless people and gypsies greatly identify with the wolf and often get wolf tattoos when they do choose to get tattoos.  All three groups have been persecuted mostly due to superstition, ignorance and greed.  But still, like the wolf, some have managed to survive to this present day.

The name “Wolf”, in any variation (Sea Wolf, Air Wolf, Lone Wolf, etc.) often are given to military groups, ships and airplanes.  To honor being a member of such a “pack”, they might choose a wolf tattoo.

And, of course, there are ever growing number of people who love wolves and dogs.  Wolf tattoos have been popular for decades in many sizes and designs.  Many tattoo artists have no choice but know how to draw a wolf in order to stay in business.

You can choose from a small silhouette of a howling wolf on your ankle, to more elaborate (and costly) paintings of a wolf in the moonlit woods that covers your entire back.  Generally, the larger and more colorful the tattoo, the more sessions it will take to complete the design.  Permanent wolf tattoos are still done with needles that inject ink into your body.  Do not try to do it yourself, no matter how confident you are in your artistic abilities.  Get a professional in a clean parlor with sterilization equipment to do it for you.

There will be a book or window displays featuring different kinds of wolf tattoos for you to choose.  You can also go online to sites like Tattoo Johnny.com to find a design you like that your chosen tattoo artist can adapt for you.  You and only you will know when you have found the right tattoo.

Don’t let anyone make you get a tattoo you really don’t want to carry around for the rest of your life.  First, you will get the design stenciled on in black and, depending on the complexity, may take many trips to the parlor to be completed.  Your skin will take up to a month to completely heal from the minor trauma of the tattooing process, so what you see in the parlor usually looks worse than the final result.  For those with wolf tattoos, the results are often worth it.

Choose from a large selection of wolf tattoos right now.

Body Art on Public Display - Wrist Tattoos

June 27th, 2007    Subscribe To Our Feed

There are many different areas on your body where you can get a tattoo.  Where you choose to get inked is a personal decision and is most likely affected by many personal factors.  While it might not seem like it, this decision is big and could impact many other aspects of your life.  Wrist tattoos are becoming more and more common—but is this the best choice for your tattoo placement?

The Various Styles Of Wrist Tattoos

Wrist tattoos come in many different styles.  The first style is a wristband or bracelet tattoo.  This kind of wrist tattoo circles the wrist and is very similar to an arm tattoo (a tattoo that circles the upper arm).

Many people choose to get wrist tattoos on the top of the wrist.  These are the most visible wrist tattoos, and they can extend onto the hand or arm.  A tattoo on the upper wrist can be very small and simple, or it can be very large and intricate.

The final style of wrist tattoo is one located on the inner wrist.  These are often times preferred because they aren’t very visible, and many consider them to be more mysterious and interesting.

The Downside To Wrist Tattoos

Yes, wrist tattoos are becoming more and more common, but they might not be the best choice for tattoo placement.  There are two main reasons why you might want to consider another spot for your tattoo: pain and professionalism.

Wrist tattoos tend to hurt more than other tattoos when you are having them done.  This is because the wrist does not have very much fat or muscle to provide a cushion for the needle.  Also, the wrist area has a very high mobility, meaning that a wrist tattoo might take longer to heal.  The tattoo also might require more touch ups.

Another disadvantage to having a wrist tattoo is the visibility factor.  A wrist tattoo is typically more visible than any other tattoo, which could present a problem in the workplace, where tattoos are frequently banned.

If you know that tattoo visibility is going to be an issue where you work, then you should probably get your tattoo on part of your body that is less visible, such as your back.  However, many wrist tattoos can be easily covered up with a bracelet or wrist watch.

Tattoo Placement Presents A Tricky Problem

The problem of tattoo placement can be overcome by simply considering your own lifestyle before you get your tattoo.  Make sure you consider factors such as visibility, pain, and tattoo size before making your final decision.

The Stars are Aligned with Zodiac Tattoos

June 23rd, 2007    Subscribe To Our Feed

Zodiac tattoos are a great way to express your personality—after all, what says more about you than your astrological sign?  Each of the twelve zodiac tattoos is a unique symbol, and each represents character traits specific to your personality.

PISCES ZODIAC SIGN Temporary Tattoo 2×2

From Aquarius To Virgo—What Do Zodiac Tattoos Mean?

There are twelve zodiac signs, and each describes the personality of someone born during a different time of the year.  You should base your decision about which zodiac tattoo to get on the following dates and descriptions that accompany each symbol.

The Aquarius tattoo is for people with birthdates within the range of January 20 through February 18.  The symbol itself is typically a pair of zig zag horizontal lines, meant to represent water.  Another common symbol of Aquarius is a man pouring water out of an urn.

If you are an Aries, you were born between March 21 through April 20.  The Aries sign appears as the curving horns of the ram; the image is often confused with that of a sprouting weed.

For those born between June 22 and July 22, you might want to consider getting a Cancer zodiac tattoo.  The Cancer symbol is a pair of spirals; they symbolize the changing movement of the sun.  Oftentimes, the Cancer zodiac symbol is depicted as a crab.

The zodiac tattoo for Capricorn (for those born between December 21 and January 19) is a symbol representing a goat’s body with a fish’s tail.

The Gemini tattoo symbol is for those born between May 21 and June 20.  This symbol is known to represent human contact and duality, and is also known to be the symbol of twins.  Pictorially, Gemini zodiac tattoos can be two children holding hands, or a man and a woman holding hands as lovers.

Leos are born in between the dates of July 23 and August 22, and the symbol is usually a lion.  It can also be represented as an oval with a “tail” that rises and then curves downward, similar to many traditional sun symbols.

The Libra symbol is two horizontal lines with a curve in the middle of the top line.  This astrological sign, which is for those born between September 23 to October 23, is also represented pictorially with the scales.

The Pisces zodiac tattoo represents those born from February 19 to March 20, and it is usually represented by a pair of fish.  The fish are joined by the mouths, though they face way from each other; this represents becoming a part of the ocean of humanity.

For people born between November 22 and December 20, the Sagittarius sign is representative of your characteristics.  The symbol is a centaur archer.

The Scorpio tattoo symbol is for those born between the dates of October 23 to November 21, and it is almost always depicted as a scorpion.  The sign is associated with masculinity.

For those Taurus’ out there, the bull is the pictorial representation of your zodiac sign.  Anyone born between April 21 and May 20 might consider getting a Taurus zodiac tattoo.

The Virgo tattoo (for those born between August 23 and September 22) is pictorially young woman carrying wheat.  This is similar to fertility and harvest goddesses.

Choose Your Sign

There are several different zodiac tattoos, but they have no meaning if you don’t get the one that applies to you.  Once you find out the dates and symbols associated with each zodiac sign, you will be better able to select a tattoo that appeals to you.
